When Magnum Research announced the 429 DE in 2018, it made big news. And with good reason, as the the 429 DE takes the vaunted .50 AE, necks it down, and turns it into a bottlenecked .44. For anyone believes in the big bullet theory, it was pure genius.
Magnum Research’s Powerful 429 DE
We got a chance to put some more rounds downrange with the 429 DE recently at the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous. And once again, the big Desert Eagle lived up to the hype.
The 429 delivers 25-percent more velocity and 45-percent more energy than the storied .44 Rem. Mag. With a muzzle velocity of 1,600 fps with a 240-grain bullet, it will tackle most any big-game pursuits. If used for self-defense, it should prove a formidable fight stopper.
The 429 Desert Eagle Mark XIX chambers the bottleneck cartridge. The pistol features a stainless-steel slide, frame and barrel. Additionally, the 6-inch barrel incorporates an integral muzzle brake, along with black appointments. The company also equipped the frame with a Picatinny rail for mounting accessories, such as lights and lasers.
Regarding the ammo, Magnum Research based the 429 DE on the 50 AE cartridge. HSM loads the round using Starline brass and Sierra bullets. The cartridge pushes the velocity and energy 25 percent and 45 percent over a .44 Magnum from a 6-inch barrel, respectively. The load blasts 240-grain bullets at 1,600 fps, while the 210-grain bullet comes out at 1,750 fps. Additionally, the cartridge features 30-degree shoulder headspaces and a neck long enough to hold and crimp a 240-grain bullet without set back under recoil.
Desert Eagle Mark XIX
Even better, the company is offering 429 DE Mark XIX spare barrels with Picatinny style accessory rails are available in a variety of finishes. Compatible with any MK19 USA or Israel Desert Eagle Pistol with a wide .830-inch rail on top of the barrel, these barrels use a 50AE magazine and bolt. They are available in both carbon and stainless steel in a variety of finishes.
With the introduction of the 429 DE Mark XIX pistol and ammunition, Magnum Research continues its lead in big-bore handguns.
