Concealed carry permits are on the rise in the United States, and Ohio is no exception.
According to the Associated Press, a newly-released report shows that roughly 72,000 new licenses were issued in 2015, up from around 58,000 in 2014. That number goes up even more when renewed licenses are factored in. Roughly 45,000 licenses were renewed in 2015. CCW permits expire in the Buckeye State after five years.
County sheriffs in Ohio are required to submit quarterly numbers pertaining to concealed carry permits to State Attorney General Mike DeWine, who then compiles the data and issues an annual report.
As the AP notes, 1,100 concealed handgun licenses were denied in 2015 and 530 were revoked, both up from 2014. In addition, roughly 1,300 permits were suspended, which is actually down from 1,400 in 2014.
