Smith & Wesson’s .460 Mag Family

The Smith & Wesson Model 460XVR 3.5” that I reviewed is in fact the “baby” of the family. Besides the 3.5-inch-barreled model, S&W offers a half dozen more .460 Magnum revolvers in various configurations.

The 460XVR 5” features a 5-inch barrel that is fitted with an integral muzzle brake to help hold down recoil and comes with two different rear sights for precise targeting with all three chamberings (.460 Magnum, .454 Casull and .45 Colt). Its MSRP is $1,369.

For those wanting a slightly longer barrel, the 460XVR 8.38” is identical to the 5-inch-barreled model except for having the longer tube. Its MSRP is $1,369.

Next up barrel length-wise is the 460 XVR 10.5”. A Performance Center product, it features a slab-sided barrel with a full-length underlug and a rail on top for mounting telescopic/optical sights. Quick-detach sling swivels make for easy carrying in the field. Its MSRP is $1,629.

Despite having a 1.5-inch-longer barrel, the Performance Center 460XVR 12” revolver’s dual-diameter barrel reduces its weight to only 79.2 ounces, while rails on the top and bottom of the barrel allow you to mount optics or other devices. The Patridge blade front sight is also removable. This revolver’s MSRP is $1,689.

Except for 2 more inches of barrel, the 460XVR 14” apes the appearance of its 12-inch-barreled cousin but comes with a muzzle brake and a fully adjustable bipod for those long shots. Its MSRP is $1,559.

Lastly, we have the impressive-looking Performance Center 460XVR Bone Collector with a dual-tone finish, a heavyweight, slab-sided, 7.5-inch barrel with muzzle brake, a Hi-Viz fiber-optic front sight and a signature Bone Collectorlogo on the left-hand sideplate. Its MSRP is $1,680.
