In Orem, Utah the Orem Department of Public Safety is offering to teach women a six-week self-defense class.
Officer Josh Hansen with the Orem Police Department said they have been offering the class for several years now, in hopes of teaching women the confidence and skills to get out of bad situations.
“First of all, we want to teach them how not to get in those situations,” Hansen stated. “There are certain things you can look for to try and avoid those situations and be aware.”
The class will teach women how to avoid potentially dangerous situations and confrontational situations in addition to principles and techniques for getting out of certain situations. Hansen said they focus on teaching women principles rather than techniques so women can solve their own problems in unique situations.
