File this one under the ol’ good things happen to those who wait. A couple of years ago, we brought you news of a wild hybrid 1911-CZ 75 blend. A collaboration between CZ-USA and Dan Wesson, we saw great potential in the Dan Wesson DWX. But then 2020 turned the world upside down all on its own, and many new irons in fires across the firearms industry were pushed aside for a multitude of reasons. But now it’s here, and we’ve got more details on the new blaster, including a full slate of features and specifications.
On October 22, 2019, Tactical Life reported:
Dan Wesson just announced its newest pistol offering for 2020. And it’s sure to turn some heads. The Dan Wesson DWX combines the single-action fire control group of a Dan Wesson 1911 and combines it with the ergonomics and capacity of a CZ 75 platform.
Dan Wesson DWX
“It started as an experiment—a grand melding of Dan Wesson and CZ pistols,” reads a statement on the Dan Wesson website. “Borrowing the crisp single-action fire control group of the DW 1911 and combining it with the ergonomics and capacity of a CZ, the resulting pistol emerged as something great.”
Though the project began as a competition gun, the DWX evolved into both full-size and compact variants. The DWX features the easy take-down of the hammer-fired CZ, along with a match-grade, bushingless barrel system.
Double-stack magazines boost capacity to 19+1 with flush bases. Dan Wesson says many standard 1911 parts will enable customization and further tuning. The sighting system employs the 1911-style front sight dovetail, further capitalizing on that massive aftermarket. Meanwhile, the rear sight utilizes a CZ Shadow 2 rear cut.
The grip angle and contours show the CZ 75 influence. The full-size DWX utilizes standard CZ 75 grips. The compact DWX will use grips from the 75 Compact. Corresponding mag wells utilize 75 series components as well, according to Dan Wesson.
For those looking to run the gun in competition, Dan Wesson says it should qualify for USPSA Limited Division. Whether for competition or carry, magazines accommodate P-09/P-10 F styles, while the compact variants run 75 Compact magazines.
