Dilley Police Shoot Juan Luna

The incident, which occurred in July 2018, began when officers attempted to locate gunfire heard during the early morning hours, according to kens5.com. Two officers responded to a local city par, where they approached a man sitting at a picnic table in the dark.

Officers begin talking and questioning the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Juan Luna. After a brief exchange, where Luna claims he’s just smoking and didn’t hear any gunfire, officers see the man printing and demand to see his hands. That’s when the scene turns deadly, in a mere instant.

Instead of showing his hands, officer body cam footage shows Luna begin pulling a 20-gauge shotgun from inside his pants.

“Yeah,” Munoz repled.

“Holy s–t,” Pargas said, now audibly shaken.

After a few moments, Pargas began to pray, the aftermath of the shooting seemingly washing over him. “Our father who are in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, just as in heaven. Give us our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespassed against us. Lead us not into temptation. Deliver us from evil. Amen.”

Luna previously faced charges including public intoxication, arson, engaging in organized crime and assault, according to kens5.com. Though paramedics initially found a pulse at the scene, Luna later died from his wounds.
