CMMG Mutant Meltdown

Why the CMMG Mutant? Well, the Mutant series blends the AR and AK platforms into a single package, so Eric from IV8888 wanted to see how it held up when compared with those systems. As it turns out, it holds up pretty darn well; the Mutant lasted 1,255 rounds before the gas tube failed. That’s 355 more rounds than a VEPR AK conversion tested in a previous meltdown. When compared with other direct impingement systems, it lasted 422 rounds more than a Faxon, and 435 rounds more than a M&P upper from other meltdowns. In other words, the Mutant acquits itself quite nicely.

The 7.62x39mm CMMG Mutant model being tested here is the Mk47 K. It features a 10-inch barrel; mid-sized receiver carved from billet 7075-T6 aluminum; ambidextrous charging handle; two-chamber brake; Magpul MOE pistol grip and CTR stock; Mil-Spec trigger; nine-inch CMMG RKM9 handguard; and a Mk47 lower that accepts all standard AK magazines.
