Weatherby is a highly respected name in the firearms industry that signifies quality and insane accuracy. One of its latest offerings that caught our eye is the new Vanguard Modular Chassis (VMC). It’s designed for long-range precision and part of the company’s Weatherby Shooting Systems collection of tactical rifles, of which there are five built on Weatherby’s renowned Mark V and Vanguard actions.
As its name would suggest, the VMC uses the Vanguard action, which is fastened to a CNC-machined, 6061 aluminum chassis that features a black, hard-anodized finish.
Athlon Outdoors contributor Mike Detty recently had the chance to send some rounds through Weatherby’s new Vanguard Modular Chassis rifle in .308 Winchester. So, what did he think? Well, here’s what he writes in the February/March 2017 issue of ‘Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement’:
“The Vanguard Modular Chassis rifle may not appeal the traditional hunter who found beauty in Weatherby’s Monte Carlo stocks with skip-line checkering and rosewood forend tips and pistol grip caps. But for those who place a priority on function and performance, the VMC is a thing of beauty. Priced at just $1,519 as of this writing, the VMC is an affordable rifle for competitors and LE agencies alike.”
