Lumberton Police Add 15 New Dodge Chargers to Fleet

As it is for most law enforcement agencies around the rest of the United States, the Ford Crown Victoria is a staple of the Lumberton Police Department.

However, the vehicle is being replaced with modern rides that are smoother and faster, like the Dodge Charger.

The North Carolina-based Lumberton Police Department recently added 15 new Dodge Chargers to its fleet, according to Robesonian.com.

Police Chief Michael McNeill said the new vehicles don’t just look good on the road, they will also keep the fleet “up to date” and keep officers safe. The Chargers will replace some Ford Crown Victorias and other cars that have been in use for as many as 10 years.

The Chargers have enhanced traction control and better handling than the department’s faithful, old rides — not to mention a minimum of 292 horsepower if the bad guy tries to get away.

“The wrecks that we have involve backing, turning, slowing and stopping,” McNeill told Robesonian.com. “… This is a whole new breed of car.”
