Terran Corporation SACON Bullet Traps and Live-Fire Structures | New Product

Terran Corporation — an Ohio-based company which manufactures environmental equipment and instruments — has introduced SACON Bullet Traps and Live-Fire Structures to their product line, new for 2014.

Currently, there are a number of different bullet traps available on the market: deceleration traps (steel drum or snail trap), deflection traps (angled steel plates over a sand bed) and ablation traps (foamed concrete blocks or rubber blocks). All of these pose environmental challenges, such as toxic air emissions, heavy metals accumulation, and soil erosion, in addition to various safety and security risks. SACON, or shock-absorbing concrete, was developed by the Army Corps of Engineers to address these challenges.

Modular and easy to assemble, Terran Corporation’s SACON bullet traps and live-fire structures have closed-cell foamed concrete which provides dry, alkaline medium for holding lead. The SACON can also capture a majority of small arms munitions and grenades. Terran can design and build a system, or assist architects and engineers with designing structures to maximize the training experience. SACON may also be integrated with other range systems. See below for additional details.

Benefits of SACON for Firing Ranges and Shoot Houses

-Closed-cell foamed concrete provides dry, alkaline medium for holding lead.
-Capable of capturing most small arms munitions and grenades.
-Cannot burn or rot (can be used with tracers).
-Construction techniques are similar to conventional concrete (block, pre-cast panels, or cast-in-place).
-Alkalinity results in low lead leaching.
-Used SACON generally considered construction waste — non-hazardous and non-flammable. (Results of Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) tests)
-Can be formed into any shape and pigmented if desired.
