Let’s face it, we need to connect with the outdoors, it is in our blood. Whether it is overlanding, hunting, camping or just out for a hike, the need for fresh wilderness air drives us. However, not everyone feels the need to sleep outside, and some have health issues that prevent it. It is those situations that options like the Launch Pad, from Outside Van, are the perfect solution.
The Outside Van Launch Pad
Leading from the front, the Launch Pad has adjustable seating, to allow for 2 – 4 travel approved captain’s chairs. But if you are only traveling with two, you can remove the premium bench seat for more interior room. When the bench seat is still in place it has a clear view out the oversized slider window.
Whether you are stopping for a break or the night, the custom galley kitchen is perfect for whipping up a meal. It features a flush-mounted induction cooktop next to the premium sink. The sink and cooktop sit above a dual zone refrigeration with adjustable temperature control. Additionally, just below the sink and to the left of the refrigerator is a small cupboard and two drawers, for storage.
A Good Night’s Sleep
When the meal is ready the rear of the van transforms into a lounge area with two dinette leather-bound couches. However, when it is time to settle in for the night, the Altitude Bed converts this space into sleeping quarters. The Altitude Bed lowers from its storage in the ceiling providing a large sleeping space for two. If you have four people, the dinette couches also convert into a bed, under the Altitude Bed.
Although, I have to admit, you would probably find me on the roof. I am a hammock camper and have hung everywhere from the Colorado Rockies to the Amazon Jungle. When I first saw the Outside Van Launch Pad, I thought it was pretty cool. But when I saw the hammock stand on the roof, I knew I had to share it with you. Although I don’t readily see any options for a tarp setup above the hammock stand, I am sure inventive minds can engineer something. I know I would.
Power and Overlanding
The roof also contains three 45W Zamp Obsidian Series ultra-low profile solar panels. During the day the panels charge the lithium battery, featuring 630-amp hours and 8064-watt hours. The 2,000-watt inverter ensures that your gear receives clean and reliable electricity, safeguarding your small electronics.
For you overlanders, the Launch Pad features a Backwoods Bumper with a Warn Zeon 12-S Platinum Winch. A winch like this ensures that you will never be stuck again. On the rear is the Backwoods Rear Swing Out Bumper with spare tire carrier, gas can and extra storage. Keep all of your off-road gear easily accessible for when you need it most.
On the wall in the lounge area, and inside the rear doors, are oversized steel cross hatch panels for more equipment storage. Equipped with mounting holes, the panels accept steel hooks for hanging gear or running nylon webbing, for hanging additional items. The rear of the van also has storage space with wall mount straps for securing your firearms or other gear.
