At the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous, a few months later, I got an early test drive of what would be the first pistol in their new eXperior series, and what a test drive it was. The pistol was fantastic, and it set a high bar. Now Wilson Combat is back with a new model. The eXperior Elite Commander Double Stack.

Tri-Top Slide
The 4.25-inch stainless steel Tri-Top slide features enhanced cocking serrations and precision machining, paired with a match-grade stainless fluted bull barrel with a flush-cut reverse crown, contributing to the pistol’s 1.5-inch accuracy guarantee at 25 yards.
Control and reliability are enhanced through Wilson Combat’s Bullet Proof components, including the ambidextrous thumb safety, magazine release, and concealment hammer. One The Range
While I came into this with a positive bias from my previous experience, the truth of performance could only be found in the range. Wilson Combat went out of its way to get a gun in my hands for testing before the product launch. First impressions of the gun were solid. The fit of the gun was good, and it had excellent tolerances, as we would expect from Wilson Combat. The aesthetics of the new eXperior were pleasing with its bold lines, cuts, and unique grip texture.
Of course, I am a trigger snob, so that is where I headed next. It is a classic curved skeletonized trigger that broke cleanly at 3 ½ pounds with a short reset. The movement was smooth, with no grit or grab and a clean break. The grip performed as advertised and provided a solid purchase on the gun. With the once-over complete, it was time to hit the range and put the eXperior through its paces.

Groups
Wilson Combat also sent along two flavors of ammo to run with the gun. The workload would be done with their 135gr HBFN followed by Lehigh Defense 90gr XD. The first shots were great, and at 10 yards, I had a nice single-ragged hole made by five rounds. At 15 yards, it turned into a one-inch group in slow-fire groups, and at 25 yards, it was one and a half inches. This was on par with the test target provided with the gun by Wilson Combat.
Where the gun shone was in dynamic drills. The smooth trigger break and easy recoil made the gun fast and accurate. I made easy work of close-quarter shots followed by a 25-yard head shot. In the end, the gun is a solid performer.
