Federal 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak – With Federal’s Peak Alloy Case

Federal Ammunition has now expanded its revolutionary and patented Peak Alloy case technology into a standard cartridge. Federal’s all-new 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak is a high-pressure version of the trusted 6.5 Creedmoor. It has the same external dimensions as a conventional 6.5 Creedmoor. Therefore, it is compatible with existing 6.5 Creedmoor rifles. With a Peak Alloy case, it’s loaded to 80,000 psi, producing muzzle velocities 300 fps faster and beyond 3,000 fps in select loads. This is achieved while maintaining similar perceived recoil.

Following the 7mm Backcountry

“When Federal introduced the 7mm Backcountry cartridge in 2025, we set the wheels in motion that will forever change high-performance rifle ammunition performance,” said Chairman and CEO Jason Vanderbrink. “We are now excited to roll out another Peak Alloy cartridge option. Our 7mm Backcountry and all-new 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak truly unlock unprecedented performance and are ushering in a new era of ammunition. The best part of the 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak is that hunters and target shooters are likely to already own a rifle that can shoot it,” said Vanderbrink.

Faster Than 6.5 PRC

The patented one-piece Peak Alloy case enables safe handling of 80,000 PSI versus 65,000 PSI in brass cases. This results in higher velocities and enhanced ballistics for flatter long-range shooting. This is especially beneficial for shooters who prefer smaller, lighter, shorter-barreled rifles. Such rifles are typically configured for suppressors. With its impressive velocities, 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak even beats 6.5 PRC by 100 fps in a smaller, lighter platform. There is no significant increase in felt recoil. “This performance takes a cartridge that many felt was undersized for larger game and gives it enough energy to take down large animals at longer ranges,” said Jesse Whiteside, Federal’s V.P. of New Product Development.

“We saw the big-picture potential for this technology from the start,” said Mike Holm, Federal’s Director of Centerfire Rifle Ammunition. “It was obvious what Peak Alloy meant for legacy cartridges, and considering the popularity of 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak was the natural place to show the world what it could do. We will first offer 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak in 130-grain Terminal Ascent and a 155-grain Fusion Tipped, with current plans to ship the new cartridge to dealers in August of 2026 and make it available online. Soon to follow will be loads in Gold Medal Sierra Tipped MatchKing, Barnes LRX, and Berger Elite Hunter.”
