The deck is usually stacked against any gun rights advocate who goes on mainstream television, but if there’s anybody prepared to handle such a situation, it’s Colion Noir. The host of NRA TV’s “NOIR” stopped by HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” on Friday, first sitting down for a one-on-one interview with Bill Maher and then appearing as a panel guest later on in the show. Watch the first segment above and the second segment below.

In the one-on-one interview, Noir talks common misconceptions about firearms; guns in television and movies; using firearms for personal protection; good guys with guns; arming teachers in the wake of Parkland; background checks; the original intent of the Second Amendment; and much more. It’s an entirely reasonable, calm discussion.
Things got a little more heated, but not overly so, when Noir was a panel guest. In that segment, he squared off primarily against Neera Tanden, the President of the Center for American Progress, an advocacy organization. The two went back and forth on Stand Your Ground laws; mental health; the effect of firearms on the suicide rate; and enforcing background checks.
Overall, we think it’s safe to say Noir did a great job during his appearance on Bill Maher’s show, considering the fact that, as we mentioned up top, the deck was stacked against him.
