Archon Firearms—formerly known as Arsenal Firearms—showed off its new Archon Type B handgun at SHOT Show 2018.

The Type B is a 9mm striker-fired polymer pistol with a 4.3-inch barrel; flat-faced trigger with shortened reset; oversized trigger guard; grip mapping technology which is essentially tiny squares on the grip that improve control and handling; front and rear slide serrations; extended beavertail; fiber optic front sight and serrated blacked out rear sight while also boasting compatibility with Glock sights; reversible magazine release; integrated mag well; and a Picatinny rail for accessories at the front.

In the press materials, Archon says this gun has an extremely low bore axis—supposedly one of the lowest in the industry—to reduce muzzle flip and felt recoil. The company also touts the Type B’s AF-Speedlock system, which keeps the barrel cycling in a straight line from front to rear without tilting. The gun is locked by vertical movement of the locking block, which isn’t firmly attached to the barrel.

The Archon Type B handgun ships out with four 15-round Mec-Gar magazines. The MSRP is set at $849.95.

This gun was initially going to be brought out as the Stryk B under the name Arsenal Firearms, but due to a potential trademark dispute, the company has re-branded to Arsenal Firearms and re-designated the Stryk B as the Type B.

“Although we are confident in our legal right to the previous name, we’ve chosen to rebrand to avoid a potentially lengthy delay in the launch of our Type B pistol,” said Archon Firearms CEO Adrian Chavez. “Unfortunately, the rename does require manufacturing new slides with updated markings, as well as the reissue of an ATF-required marking variance, so some delay is inevitable and we now expect to launch in late spring.

“We apologize for the frustration this may cause some of the tens of thousands of customers who have placed preorders through their dealers,” Chavez added. “We wouldn’t exist without their patronage and we are doing everything we can to expedite the process. Type B samples have been in final field validation for a month now with a select group of firearms trainers and competitors, and based on their unanimously positive feedback, we are confident the wait will be worth the inconvenience.”
