Hornady has a whole mess of new products in the pipeline for 2018. Two that we’re particularly pumped about are the latest additions to the Nebraska-based company’s RAPiD Safe lineup: the RAPiD Safe 4800KP and the RAPiD Vehicle Safe.
Like all the other RAPiD Safes, both new models are equipped with RFID tech, allowing instant access with tags that are programmed for each safe. RFID tags include a wristband, key fob and decals, the press release says. The decals adhere to virtually any surface, including plastic, glass, metal and wood. Most people adhere them to their mobile device. With RFID technology, you don’t need to find a key, register a finger print or remember a combination. And the RFID-enabled device is capable of reading up to four different tags.
The RAPiD Safe 4800KP is built to accommodate two 1911-size guns. It boasts a heavy-duty 14-gauge steel construction with two internal hardened locking lugs to protect your contents, while the aforementioned RFID technology enables easy access. Meanwhile, the safe exceeds ASTM International safety standards for child and pry resistance, lock strength, drop/pick/saw tests and hinge-attack resistance. Included with this model are cables and pre-drilled mounting holes, meaning you can secure this safe basically anywhere. If you want to do secondary entry, you can program a four-to-six-digit security code or use the barrel key.
Next up, the RAPiD Vehicle Safe is designed specifically for on-the-go scenarios. It features a patent-pending mounting system that includes an inflatable bladder that conforms to the shape of your vehicle interior. That means no mods are necessary. The power is supplied via an included 12-volt car adapter or four AAA batteries, which aren’t included. Like the RAPiD Safe 4800KP, the RAPiD Vehicle Safe exceeds ASTM standards for child and pry resistance, lock strength, drop/pick/saw tests and hinge-attack resistance.
Hornady hasn’t yet announced the MSRP for these two new models.
