Biden Says Justice Department Will Rule on Pistol Braces Within 60 Days

The next wave of assaults on the Second Amendment began Wednesday. The White House fired yet another salvo, this one a troubling announcement on coming “initial actions” from the president. The White House threatened six initial actions, continuing President Joe Biden’s promise to circumvent Congress to weaken and destroy the Second Amendment. Actions include prohibitions against “ghost guns,” red flag law models, so-called “evidence-based community violence interventions,” firearms trafficking reports, and having longtime gun control proponent David Chipman lead the ATF. However, Biden also promised action on pistol braces.

Executive Action Coming to NFA Pistol Braces?

So we begin with pistol stabilizing braces. Pistol braces came front and center in October when the ATF classified Q’s Honey Badger pistol as an SBR. Pistol braces fell onto Biden’s radar after the recent shooting in Boulder, Colo. There, the shooter allegedly used a pistol brace. Now, the Biden administration wants to turn pistol braces into NFA items.

“The Justice Department, within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act,” said a White House statement.

What does that mean exactly? We can only guess. Again, the ATF already went back and forth on pistol braces several times. After several flip-flops and confusing rulings, the ATF backed off. But the Biden administration never intended to leave this alone. It barked loudly over the Dayton shooting, using it to show cause for coming after an accessory originally designed for disabled veterans. Now another high-profile shooting in Boulder provides the next attempt at prohibition.

“The alleged shooter in the Boulder tragedy last month appears to have used a pistol with an arm brace, which can make a firearm more stable and accurate while still being concealable.”

This action serves nothing more than going after a weak member of the herd. To many uninitiated, they might agree with the sentiment presented by the White House. If it looks scary, it’s dangerous — no one needs it. But there remains no data showing pistol stabilizing braces as a threat against society. They don’t raise the level of crime or murder. It’s just something the Biden Administration thinks it can get without much of a fight. And that’s the plan, to get an inch anywhere and everywhere they can.
