Originally hand made by Hoyt and Al Buck, the 119 Special first gained fame during the Second World War, the press release says. They were initially designed for U.S. soldiers and made using surplus files and recycled airplane canopies. Different iterations of the 119 have come and gone, but that initial design still stands the test of time.

Buck Knives and Cabela go way back. They’ve been working together as retail partners for over four decades now. To celebrate that relationship and to commemorate this legendary sheath knife, the 119 special will be available in a special collector’s tin.

The release of the 75th anniversary edition of the 119 special and tin starts across multiple Cabela’s locations with a scavenger hunt for a free 119 tin hosted by Chris and Casey Keefer of the TV shows Dropped and Rival Wild. Hints to locations hiding the knives will be announced live from a Cabela’s location via Cabela’s, Buck Knives and the Keefer Bros social media pages October 22-23.

“It’s an honor to introduce the 75th edition 119 with Cabela’s,” said Bob George, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Buck Knives. “They have always been great retail partners to us and they are passionate about making the best products available for outdoor enthusiasts.”
