Meet the Remington 1911 R1 Ultralight Commander

Nearly a century after manufacturing its first 1911-style pistol during World War I, Remington has announced an updated version of its 1911 R1 pistol it brought to market back in 2010. This new model is called the 1911 R1 Ultralight Commander.

The main thing to note about the 1911 R1 Ultralight Commander is its type III hard coat anodized lightweight aluminum frame that reduces the overall weight of the gun by 20 percent while still matching the performance of the standard 1911. The original 1911 R1 weighs in at 38.5 ounces, while this variant tips the scales at 31 ounces. This model also features a 4.25-inch stainless steel barrel with a 1:16-inch twist; adjustable trigger; PVD finished slide and aggressively checkered laminate grips.

The 1911 R1 Ultralight Commander is available at a suggested retail price of $849.
