AAC SR5: Advanced Armament Corporation (AAC) offers a variety of AR-compatible suppressors designed for 5.56mm and 7.62mm rifles. The SR5 is designed for 5.56mm weapon systems and features AAC’s 90T Ratchet Taper Mount, a fast-attach system that allows the user to install or remove the suppressor in less than three seconds. The baffle core is made from Inconel, and the exterior is Cerakoted.
AAC SR7: The SR7 is the big brother of the SR5, and it’s designed for 7.62mm host weapons and uses the 90T Ratchet Taper Mount. Designed to minimize backpressure, the SR7 features a blast baffle system that protects against corrosion when using short-barreled rifles (SBRs). Like the SR5, the SR7’s baffle core is made from Inconel, and its exterior is Cerakoted.
Dead Air Armament Flash Hider: The Flash Hider does exactly as it name says—it hides flash. Using a unique patent-pending design that features mass-shifted, equal-length tines, the Flash Hider will not “ping” while firing and is compatible with Dead Air’s Sandman-S and Sandman-L suppressors.
Dead Air Armament Pyro: The Pyro enhanced muzzle brake from Dead Air Armament is designed to make your AR shoot flatter so you can stay on target, and it comes with a 7.62mm-compatible cap, but it can be interchanged with Dead Air’s Sandman front caps.
Dead Air Armament Sandman-L: Dead Air’s Sandman-L suppressors are designed for .30-caliber rifles (up to .300 Winchester Magnum), and they offer a sound reduction of 31 decibels when firing standard 7.62mm NATO ammo.
Fortis Bundle Pack: For 5.56mm ARs, Fortis is offering a Bundle Pack with its Control Shield and muzzle brake to provide shooters with a system that helps control muzzle flip and projects muzzle blast forward, away from the shooter. This is especially important in confined spaces were muzzle blast can temporarily deafen shooters. Ports on top of the devices will help keep your rifle on target.
Fortis RED Brake: Fortis developed the RED (Rapid Engagement Device) Brake to help shooters with .30-caliber ARs stay on target. The RED Brake is made of 4140 steel and is available with either matte black or bright stainless finishes.
Gemtech GMT-300BLK: Gemtech’s GMT-300BLK suppressor is designed for shooting with either super- or subsonic 300 Blackout loadings. Rated for full-auto fire, the GMT-300BLK is optimized for SBRs and features Gemtech’s innovative G-Core, so it is completely user serviceable. It offers a stated sound reduction rating of 28 to 30 decibels.
Gemtech One: The Gemtech One is a do-it-all sound suppressor that is full-auto rated and designed to SOCOM standards. Made of Inconel and titanium, the One can be used for calibers ranging from 5.56mm NATO to .300 Winchester Magnnum. It offers a 32-decibel sound reduction and features Gemtech’s Interchangeable Quick Mount.
Sig Sauer SRD556 Series: The SRD556 and SRD556Ti are both direct-thread suppressors that attach to a muzzle with 1/2×28 threads. The SRD556 is made from Inconel 718 alloy, and the SRD556Ti is made from Grade 5 titanium. Both of these suppressors feature rear mounts with wrench flats so they can be torqued down to the barrel. If a quick-detach system is desired, the SRD556-QD and SRD556Ti-QD are alternatives, which come with Taper-Lok muzzle brakes.
Sig Sauer SRD762 Series: Sig’s 7.62mm suppressors also come in Inconel or titanium—the SRD762 and SRD762Ti, respectively—with a direct-mount system. Sig’s SRD762-QD and SRD762Ti-QD use quick-detach systems. These SRD762 suppressors are rated for use up to .300 Winchester Magnum rounds and other rifle cartridges of equal or less projectile diameter, pressure and case capacity.
SilencerCo Hybrid 46: The Hybrid 46 is built for any platform, so if you want a suppressor for your AR and your sidearm, this model will do your bidding. This suppressor can be used on pistols, rifles and submachine guns, and it’s both full-auto and magnum rated for use with rounds ranging from the 9mm all the way up to the .45-70.
SilencerCo Omega 30: SilencerCo’s Omega 30 sound suppressor combines features from the company’s .30-caliber suppressors to make a good all-around silencer. Made of titanium, stainless steel and Stellite alloy, the Omega 30 is short, lightweight and versatile. It’s rated for full-auto and magnum fire, and it can be used for calibers ranging from the 5.7mm to .300 Winchester Magnum.
SureFire SOCOM300-SPS: The SOCOM300-SPS is specifically designed for the 300 Blackout cartridge and offers some of the best sound suppression with either sub- or supersonic ammunition thanks to its V-shaped baffles. It also works with other calibers and features a patented Fast-Attach mounting system that securely attaches the suppressor in seconds with minimal point-of-impact shifts.
SureFire WarComp 556: The SureFire WarComp 556 flash suppressor fits on barrels with 1/2×28 threading. Its patent-pending design reduces flash by over 99 percent compared to a plain muzzle. Made of heat-treated stainless steel bar stock, the WarComp 556 also serves as an adapter for SureFire’s SOCOM556 sound suppressors.
Wilson Combat Q-Comp: The Q-Comp was designed to reduce felt recoil in rapid fire without harsh blast or concussion. It could be considered a hybrid muzzle brake and compensator. Made of Melonite-coated steel, the Q-Comp has a slotted expansion chamber without any tines or prongs to break or snag. Three different models are available from Wilson Combat to fit 1/2×28, 5/8×24 and 11/16×24 threading.
Wilson Combat Whisper: Wilson’s Whisper suppressors feature 1.88-inch-diameter tubes with a monocore baffle design that is completely machined from titanium. These are lightweight, quick-cooling suppressors that will only add about 4.5 inches to your rifle’s overall length. Models are available for 5.56mm, 6.8 SPC, 7.62mm, 9mm and .458 SOCOM rifles.
YHM Blast Deflector: The Blast Deflector from Yankee Hill Machine (YHM) works with the company’s QD muzzle devices and literally propels the blast from fired rounds forward, away from the shooter. Both short and long versions are available. The Blast Deflector is made from 4140 chrome-moly steel and features a durable Melonite finish.
YHM Nitro 30: The Nitro 30 is a modular suppressor that can be configured for mission-specific needs. Rated for use with .17 HMR rounds through the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum, the Nitro 30 features comes with two different .30-caliber muzzle caps: a flat muzzle cap for tactical uses and a muzzle brake cap for target shooting. It also comes with two different rear caps: one for a dedicated setup and the other for a quick-disconnect setup.
Today’s innovative AR suppressors offer less noise and recoil for better shooting control. Other muzzle devices include flash suppressors and compensators, which are designed to offer a few different benefits. Flash suppressors do just that—they reduce your rifle’s muzzle flash with each shot. This can be a benefit if you need to hide your signature. Brakes and compensators will typically make your rifle louder while reducing its recoil and making it easier to get back on target for faster follow-up shots. Some designs balance these benefits. So, without further ado, here are some AR suppressors and other muzzle devices currently out there in the marketplace.
