This one just happened on Monday night. The victim was at his apartment in Peachtree Corners, Georgia when he saw several men walking across his back patio. He quickly grabbed his gun. When the men forced their way in, he opened fire, shooting one suspect in the chest, killing him. Another suspect was hit in the arm. The injured suspect and his accomplice brother were arrested and charged with first degree home invasion, aggravated assault and felony murder.
On May 4 at 8:40 pm, a homeowner in Boulder, Colorado was forced to take matters into his own hands when a man broke through the glass front door. He managed to get his home defense gun and open fire on the intruder, killing him. Due to Colorado’s “Make My Day” law which allows a homeowner to shoot a home invader if they feel their life is in danger, the homeowner will likely not be charged in the shooting. Score one for the good guys!
Earlier this year, a 22-year-old UCF student Nour Skargree was at his apartment when he heard a knock at the door. Upon opening the door, he was forced to the ground at gunpoint by two men. What the home invaders didn’t know was that he keeps a gun in the bedroom. He yelled out for his girlfriend, Sable Nehme, to grab the gun. She locked the door to buy herself some time. When the suspects kicked the door down, they came face-to-face with an armed Nehme. The suspects dropped the gun, which turned out to be a pellet gun, and fled.
A homeowner in East Knox County, Tennessee was awoken by the sound of breaking glass. He saw a man entering his home through the living room window. The unidentified homeowner grabbed his GLOCK handgun and fired off one round, killing the suspect. When he was shot, he fell out the window and onto the front porch. As it turns out, the home invader — dentified as 40-year-old James Melvin Vinson — had a long rap sheet that included theft, drug possession, probation violation, vandalism and aggravated burglary. The homeowner likely won’t be charged in the shooting.
The estranged husband of a woman living in Winterville, North Carolina finally went too far when he forced his way into her home on Ashley Meadows Drive at around 10:40 pm on May 8. He was armed with a handgun. Fortunately, so was one of the home occupants, who opened fire and shot the suspect multiple times. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. At this time, no charges are pending against the man who pulled the trigger, who is reportedly the woman’s new boyfriend.
