Advanced Armament MPW 300 BLK

Advanced Armament Corporation (AAC) has been a leader in the suppressor market for many years. In creating a brand culture with unique logos, inventive advertising, a great website and a blog, AAC has established a loyal following that is reminiscent of the Glock craze in the early years. In fact, some of AAC’s earlier full-page ads did not even show a suppressor or a firearm. Part of the company’s legacy is the success of the 300 AAC Blackout cartridge.

The cartridge’s story began with a request from a U.S. military special-mission unit who wanted a .30-caliber cartridge that would utilize the standard 5.56mm magazine and bolt. The 300 AAC Blackout (or “BLK” for short) round has the same rim dimensions and cartridge taper of the 5.56mm, which is critical for using existing mil-spec 5.56mm bolts and for feeding reliably from standard 5.56mm magazines. This configuration allows a standard M4 to be converted to 300 BLK by simply changing the barrel.

The special unit’s second requirement was for a rifle that could meet multiple mission requirements. Subsonic ammunition would allow the 300 BLK to be a quiet and effective CQB platform while delivering a .30-caliber, 220-grain projectile to the target. And by changing to a supersonic round, the operator could have a fully capable battle rifle that was effective out to 300 yards and beyond.
