WATCH: Putting an Aimpoint FCS on a 84mm Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifle

We caught up with Aimpoint at this year’s SHOT Show in Las Vegas to check out the company’s FCS 13RE. Moreover, mounted to a Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifle, the Dynamic Universal Reflex Sight (DURS) impressed, to say the least.

Designed as a multi-weapon sighting system, the Aimpoint FCS works on the previously mentioned Gustaf, as well as platforms such as the 40mm HV and 12.7mm HMG. Above all, Aimpoint claims the sighting system increases first hit probability, eliminates targeting errors and increases effective range. The totality of these benefits drastically reduces collateral damage, according to Aimpoint.

Aimpoint FCS System

The FCS system is a Direct View Optic (DVO) and it features a laser range finder. Also, the onboard ballistic computer stores more than 50 different ballistic algorithms. Meanwhile, the near parallax free optics channel delivers unlimited eye relief. Additionally, the unit automatically compensates for ballistic drop at measured distances. Further, the FCS factors variables including rotational drift, propellant temperature and terrain angle.

The FCS also aids in engaging moving targets, calculating the point of aim based on speed of target dynamically. Additionally, the FCS makes these calculations immediately, leaving the operator to aim and shoot center mass.

Ground units benefit from the added capability of programming airburst calculations for the 40mm HV. Further, the FCS provides the ability to program detonation along the axis of fire, with burst modes including “string of pearls,” essentially enabling soldiers to rain hell on the enemy.
