Americans would feel safer with a firearm in their homes than not by a two-to one margin. 42 percent of respondents would feel safer with a gun in their home, while only 20 percent would feel “less safe.”
The poll had a sample size of 1,000 and found that 25 percent of respondents “personally own a gun.” Interestingly enough, the poll found that 63 percent of respondents have fired a gun though. When asked at what age they first fired a gun, the mean age was 16. When asked what they thought the appropriate age for people to first fire a weapon, the mean age was 9 years old. These findings by YouGov are not surprising, as the majority of Americans have historically supported a fairly strong adherence to the Second Amendment.
