Angstadt Arms is well known for its innovation in the pistol-caliber carbine (PCC) market. For 2020, the company raised the bar with the MDP-9 pistol.
Angstadt Arms MDP-9 Details
We often talk about “truck guns” or bug-out guns here; the MDP-9 pistol definitely fits that bill. The AR pistol is an interesting build. This new design is unique because it combines the roller-delayed action of the venerable HK MP5 with an AR-pattern pistol that feeds from 9mm, double-stack Glock magazines.
The patent-pending action significantly reduces the gun’s weight and recoil. Also, the pistol is just 14 inches long overall and weighs a mere 3.6 pounds, making it ideal to carry and conceal.
The upper features a monolithic assembly with a continuous top Picatinny rail, M-LOK interface, and QD points. Meanwhile, a reciprocating forward charging handle is available on the left or right side. It also has a 1913 rail with SB Tactical side-folding and telescoping options. Finally, Angstadt designed the bolt to lock back after firing the last round.
Overall, that’s a really nice package, but what does it all cost? MSRP comes in at $2,599. Certainly not on the cheap side of things, but it looks pretty promising. It also comes in $200 cheaper than the new HK SP5, the civilian variant of the MP5 — so there’s that.
Angstadt says it will also offer the MPD-9 as a stand-alone upper assembly and receiver extension rail adapter for those who want to upgrade their existing UDP-9 or 0940 receiver to the roller-delayed action. The company added that it will provide a list of additional third party compatible AR-9 receivers in the future. For more information, please visit AngstadtArms.com.
