Mike Detty is a veteran gun-guy now in his 35th year of professional writing. Inspired by his competitive endeavors early articles involved gear reviews and gunsmithing modifications for USPSA and 3-gun competitors. A career change in 1999 and the ownership of a company that specialized in sales of the Modern Sporting Rifles gave Detty an expertise in these guns and an inside look into the firearms industry. It was also this endeavor that led Detty to help federal law enforcement in a 3-year investigation into gun trafficking to cartels in Mexico. These events are depicted in his novel Operation Wide Receiver. Detty received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Arizona before entering the officer ranks of the United States Marine Corps. He lives in the shadows of the majestic Santa Catalina mountains of Tucson and spends as much time as possible exploring the desert with his Chocolate Labrador, Gunner.
