Over the years I have regularly carried some kind of tactical pen and people always ask me what it is. To which I answer, “it’s a pen.” They don’t need to know everything about it. Such as, with tactical pens like the Longhand and Shorthand, the steel or aluminum construction is durable enough for self-defense. For instance, in the case of the Longhand and Shorthand, both are available in your choice of aircraft aluminum (black) or 303 stainless-steel (tumble finished).
The ergonomic, scalloped handle, coupled with the 4.62-inch length of the Longhand, is ideal for kubotan techniques. However, the Shorthand would be a little too short, at 3.49 inches, for effective techniques of this kind. Although, the Shorthand still benefits from the ergonomic design and its retention properties.
Both the Longhand and Shorthand utilize an AXIS style bolt action system to move the pen cartridge forward. The pens include the renowned Fisher Space Pen cartridge, providing smooth ink flow in almost any condition, as a result. Additionally, the knurled pattern at the writing interface ensures slip free use. Both models also include a pocket clip, similar to Benchmade’s knife models.
