Beretta launched the newest addition to the PMX family of pistols today with the release of the Beretta PMXs. The 9mm large-format pistol brings a semi-auto civilian variant of the military and law enforcement PMX platform.
Beretta PMXs
The PMXs runs via a direct blow-back operating system. it couples with modern polymer components to enhance the pistol’s durability and save on weight, according to Beretta. The full-featured, large-format handgun includes fully ambidextrous controls of user adaptability, multiple attachment points, including QD sling mounts, and a 1/2×28 TIP threaded barrel to accept 9mm muzzle devices and suppressors.
Built to meet reliability, durability and performance standards set by NATO qualifications, the PMXs comprises an adaptive pistol platform. Beretta claims this pistil bring serious performance in any operating environment.
“Beretta USA is excited to introduce the PMXs to the US market finally,” said Nicola Lorenzi, Pistol Product Manager. “The PMXs represents the evolution of the legendary PM12, widely adopted by military and law enforcement agencies around the world, and one of the guns used by the U.S. Marines Corps to guard the U.S. Embassy during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. The PMXs inherits the reliability and durability of Beretta SMG platforms, being one of the few such platforms to be NATO Certified.”
In addition to ambi controls, the PMXs comes equipped with four Picatinny rail surfaces as 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. So users can mount a wide range of accessories and optics to meet their mission.

Editor’s Take:
The timing is tough here for Beretta to finally get this new PMXs to market. But that shouldn’t take away from the response to this updated platform finally hitting the civilian market. At first glance, the PMXs looks well executed. We hope to get one in for testing soon to find out for sure.
NOTE: Since we’re all still dealing with ATF Final Rule on Pistols, make sure you do your due diligence before buying or bolting on a brace or stock. The PMXs would no doubt be an awesome PDW in an SBR format, which would require proper tax and licensing.
