The Beretta SL3 Premium Over & Under Blends Beauty & Reliability

Beretta has expanded its shotgun lineup with its new SL3 premium over and under. Combing over its look and features, it’s obvious this model is built to blend premium aesthetics with reliability.

Beretta SL3 Details

Handmade in the company’s Gardone Val Trompia factory in Italy, the Beretta SL3 premium over and under features a reliable boxlock action designed to stand up to intense field use. The barrels are anchored at three separate points: hinge pins, lower hooks and locking pins. These cold hammer forged barrels are made from tri-alloy Beretta Steel (Ni, Cr, Mo) and feature an Optima Bore HP profile. This profile offers up “excellent” patterns with lead, steel and other lead alternative shots, according to Beretta.

The SL3 also boasts a fast, crisp trigger thanks to the hammer leaf spring, which is also used in Beretta’s competition shotguns. In addition, the gun features newly-designed ejectors that are more reliable and easy to clean.

Beretta SL3 Design & Aesthetics

Design and aesthetics are where this shotgun really pops. The receiver sports a “rounded and fluid design” that highlights the gun’s “flowing profile,” according to Beretta. The top lever is uniquely shaped to match the lines on the top of the receiver. Furthermore, the top lever is tapered. This blends the receiver’s slim shape into the wood. Meanwhile, the SL3’s stock and forend are made from high grade walnut wood. They are finished in matte oil. In addition, the pistol grip is available with or without checkering. The trigger guard has also been given a new design.

Buyers have the option of picking from three different engravings. Here they are as defined in the press release:

renaissance style ornamental motif with rich bass relief.

game scene featuring pheasants on the left, ducks on the right and a partridge on the underside. The ideal game shooting scene for a 12 gauge field, over and under.

fine English scroll engraving for a stunning traditional look.

The Beretta SL3 can also be bought in a mirror polished version, giving the shotgun a more contemporary look.

Beretta SL3 Case

Beretta ships out the SL3 premium over and under in a dedicated case every bit as snazzy as the shotgun itself. The buckles are inspired by the SL3 receiver’s profile. The case locks are crafted with the Pietro Beretta logo shield in mind, the company says. The external fabric is a blue cotton canvas, and “an elegant but contrasting rich red lining.” The leather details are hand-crafted from Italian leather and hand-stitched to the case. As a bonus, Beretta throws in all the cleaning accessories in a removable leather pouch.

There’s no word on the pricing for the Beretta SL3 premium over and under. Based on everything we just described, however, it ain’t gonna be cheap.
