Yesterday’s testimony by David Chipman before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee proved an absolute embarrassment. The Biden ATF director nominee, when posed the simple question, couldn’t correctly define what constitutes an assault weapon.
Biden ATF Director Nominee David Chipman Can’t Define Assault Weapons
Louisiana Senator John Kennedy put the question to Chipman during a hearing that began proceedings to see if Biden’s pick to run the agency could gain confirmation. But Chipman’s testimony proved damaging. He admitted to Senator Ted Cruz he in fact supported a ban on assault rifles, America’s most popular rifle. But when pressed on what an assault weapon actually is, the former agent simply stuttered and avoided coming clean.
Now we can do a deep dive into everything Chipman has said and done. He’s worked for Giffords, Everytown and more. He publicly advocated for a renewed assault weapon ban. But the most damning issue comes in the form of the most anti-gun president in American history hand-picked Chipman to run the ATF. The reason: Biden will use Chipman as a hammer to pound armed citizens and the firearm industry.
Kennedy Calls Out Chipman
But when Kennedy attempted to get Chipman’s definition for the very thing he said he supported banning, the former agent pulled back.
“There’s no way I can define an assault weapon,” Chipman laughed incredulously.
“You’re gonna run this agency and you don’t have a definition of an assault weapon?” Chipman attempted to pivot to an alleged ATF definition on the books.
“Just give me your definition,” Kennedy interupted.
“I’ll give you one definition that ATF …,” Chipman pivoted again.
“If you won’t answer my question, how can I vote for you?” Kennedy fired back. “I’m done Mr. Chairman. I don’t think I’m gonna get an answer.”
The answer remains clear: Chipman wants to ban all semi-automatic rifles. Further, he wants a punitive, widened background check system, magazine limits and more. Chipman emerges as Biden’s shining star, a weapon to point at the firearm industry and law-abiding gun owners everywhere.
