President-elect Joe Biden climbed back upon his high horse Monday. He went after firearms, proclaiming guns and gun violence “a national health crisis.”
Biden’s Guns National Health Crisis
Biden, who ran for president on an unabashedly anti-gun ticket, said in a message to families of Sandy Hook Elementary victims, “Every year, more than 30,000 people die from gun violence across America—a statistic we would associate with war in a far-off place. Countless more are left with a lifetime of injuries and trauma.”
He then proclaimed in the prepared statement, “You’ve helped us forge a consensus that gun violence is a national health crisis and we need to address its total cost to fully heal families, communities, and our nation, Eight years later, there have been plenty of thoughts and prayers, but we know that is not enough.”
While even one death of any innocent person at the hands of violent criminals is one too many, Biden’s longstanding practice of playing fast and loose with the facts where firearms are concerned is frustrating to those who know the real facts.
In fact, if you discount about 20,000 suicides a year, the total number of homicides is somewhere around 10,000, year in and year out. I’m certainly not saying suicides aren’t important. However, they don’t fit into most people’s definition of “gun violence” as Biden portrays it.
The Real Problems
There’s also no doubt that 10,000 deaths is a significant number. However, it pales in comparison to a true “national health crisis” in the U.S.; one considered to be a major cause of death. According to several studies, medical errors by doctors and other healthcare practitioners account for up to 250,000 deaths every year. Do the math; you’ll see that your doctor is 25 times more likely to kill you than a bad guy with a gun. In fact, some studies suggest that medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., right behind heart disease and cancer.
Yet Biden and others continue to push for so-called “assault weapon” bans. They push for other useless gun restrictions that don’t affect criminals, only law-abiding gun owners. And they completely ignoring the Second Amendment in the process.
Do you know what other causes of death Biden hasn’t deemed to be a “national health crisis”? Here are CDC stats from 2018 on a few things that kill more people every year than guns in the hands of murderers:
- Accidental poisoning, about 63,000;
- Motor Vehicle Accidents, about 40,000 in 2018;
- Falls, about 37,000
Oh, and let’s not forget about that thing called COVID-19. According to the CDC, the disease has claimed more than 300,000 lives in the U.S. this year, as of publishing time. THAT is a national health crisis — not guns.
Is There a Hidden Agenda?
That being the case, it’s not illogical to wonder why Biden, Kamala Harris and other anti-gun politicians continue to push for unconstitutional restrictions that further endanger lawful gun owners. More important, the restrictions have no effect on whether criminals can or cannot get guns to ply their nefarious trade.
Like nearly everything in government these days, the answer is likely power. Biden surely knows that if he can control the guns, he can more easily control the U.S. population. A portion of American citizens currently feel disenfranchised by the election results. Some consider the election rigged, producing fraudulent results. The sooner Biden controls this group of dissidents, maybe then he moves on with the rest of his agenda—one that could reshape America into his liberal Utopian vision.
