Brownells Reveals Aero Precision M4 Carbine, M16A4 Rifle Clones

Months after unveiling its Retro Rifle lineup, Brownells is now introducing a pair of rifle clones built by Aero Precision designed to resemble the famed M4 carbine and M16A4 rifle.

The 5.56mm NATO M4 carbine clone features a 16-inch barrel chrome-lined M4-contour barrel with a 1:7 twist. Built with a 7075-T6 forged aluminum upper and lower and treated with a Mil-Spec hard-anodized finish, the M4 carbine clone sports the period-correct M4 RAS rail from Knight’s Armament Company. It also comes with military-issue rail covers; a KAC vertical grip; and a M16 BCG treated with a phosphate finish. Brownells says the only thing missing here is the third selector-switch position, since this is semi-auto only.

The M16A4 clone, meanwhile, has a 20-inch chrome-lined barrel with a M16/A4 exterior profile; 7075-T6 aluminum upper and lower with a matte black and hard-anodized finish; and a M16 BCG with a phosphate coating. Touted as a close copy of the U.S. Marine Corps issue rifle, the M16A4 ships with a Knight’s Armament M5 RAS rail; the same rail covers issued to Marine Corps infantry units; and the KAC vertical grip.

In the presser, Brownells says these rifles were built in the same spirit as its Retro Rifle series and are intended to be the “closest-possible reproductions” of these two famous military firearms that can be owned by civvies.

“Much like the Brownells Retro Rifles, the Aero Precision M4 Carbine and M16A4 Rifle will resonate with those who may have carried them in military service, as well as those interested in such firearms,” said Brownells Director of Product Management Paul Levy. “Both rifles are unique milestones in the development of Eugene Stoner’s original design, and are built to the high quality and reliability standards we have come to know from Aero Precision.”
