Bullpup Unlimited BPU-870 12 Gauge Remington Shotgun Conversion Kit | Gun Preview

Bullpup Unlimited conversion turns your Remington 870 into a compact CQB dominator!

In the upcoming May 2014 issue of GUNS & WEAPONS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT, author D.K. Pridgen writes, “The Remington 870 is so prevalent in LE circles that it was chosen as the first subject of an entirely new conversion kit— Bullpup Unlimited’s BPU-870—which, in its standard LE configuration, is built for 3-inch-chambered 870s with 18.5-inch barrels, six-round magazine tubes and bead-type front sights. (Longer barrels and magazine tubes can be used, but they’ll extend further out of the kit.) Owner and inventor J.J. Hunter, a retired Kentucky law enforcement officer with 26 years on the job, likes bullpup designs so much that he collects and shoots them. In an inspired moment, he decided there might be a niche to fill assisting brother officers with his favorite firearm design.

“Hunter reasoned that most agencies would have a number of Remington 870s in vaults or still in patrol units and thought the familiarity officers had with the 870 made it the prime choice for conversion. He hooked up with designers and polymer experts he described as ‘capable of doing just about anything’ to produce a simple, durable conversion, 90 percent of which is manufactured in his home state of Kentucky.

“Hunter’s expectations were around five to 10 units per week sold to LEOs, but a trip to a popular shoot and a video from it posted on YouTube changed things. Today, Hunter’s company moves a lot more than five to 10 units each week, with many sold to non-commissioned civilians! Despite demand, Hunter still inspects all parts before shipping and hand-fits every adapter.”
