The first multiplayer trailer for “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” dropped Wednesday, and we like what we see. Set in 1983, it gives off some serious ’80s vibes. We’re also assuming Michael Bay directed it given the number of explosions involved.
Overall, “Call of Duty” is one of the best-selling video game franchises ever. We’re certainly fans. As far as #PewPew goes, it’s a literal blast. The new trailer definitely grabbed our attention.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Details
The first thing jumped out at us were the multiplayer maps. Miami was the first one shown, and it’s got some serious “Scarface” vibes to it. Beyond that, the trailer also shows the North Atlantic, Angola, Uzbekistan, and the Ural Mountains. So there is a wide range of climates and land types that will allow for different guns, strategies, and vehicles. All of those regions also have their various ties to the Cold War.
The available gun list is still coming together. From what we can see, there looks to be some 1980s-relevant firearms. There also looks to be some inconsistencies for the period. However, it’s a video game and the “Call of Duty” franchise has never been completely accurate when it comes to firearms. So we’ll shut our “that doesn’t make any sense” brains off for a little and just enjoy the game as intended.
Most importantly, “Black Ops Cold War” will support the “Call of Duty: Warzone” experience. The “Battle Royale” portion of “Warzone” pits teams of four up against each other with about 150 people on a given map until one team remains. It’s a pretty cool experience that launched in 2020 as a part of the latest game in the franchise, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.” They even used real-life operators like Tu Lam. We’ll see how “Black Ops Cold War” pans out, but we like what we see.
