AK-74u — Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Effective as a close and medium-range weapon, the AK-74u is classified as a submachine gun in COD 4: Modern Warfare, but as IMFDB points out, it penetrates walls and other cover like other assault rifles, something other SMGs in the game can’t do. In campaign mode, this gun is used by the Russian Ultranationalist organization and the Middle Eastern antagonist group OpFor. In multiplayer mode, it can be customized with a red dot sight, silencer and ACOG scope, according to the Call of Duty Wiki. It is pictured here with a grenade launcher attachment.
UMP45 — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The powerful and accurate UMP45 submachine gun can do some serious damage. According to the Call of Duty Wiki, it features a 25 (campaign) or 32-round (multiplayer) magazine, light to moderate recoil and user-friendly iron sights. It also has a high damage output which isn’t negatively affected by attachments like extended mags, a silencer and more. It’s used by the Russian Spetsnaz (special operations) group, as well as the private military unit Shadow Company. It’s also used by the multinational unit Task Force 141.
FAMAS — Call of Duty: Black Ops 1
The fully automatic FAMAS is seen in later Call of Duty: Black Ops missions. It is used by CIA and Spetsnaz groups. It has a 30-round magazine (45 with extended mags). In multiplayer, it has a lower damage per bullet and lower range than other assault rifles in the game, the COD Wiki says. To compensate, the FAMAS has a rate of fire of 937 RPM. Similar to the UMP45, an assortment of attachments are available for this weapon.
M16A4 — Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The M16A4 is mostly used by U.S. recon Marines. According to IMFDB, it (incorrectly) fires fully automatic in single-player. In multiplayer, it has a three-round burst, which is more accurate. It’s especially effective at long ranges. The M16A4 can be fitted with a silencer, red dot sight, ACOG scope, and M203 grenade launcher in multiplayer. It also has a draw time of 0.35 seconds. As the COD Wiki points out, this means switching to the M16A4 is almost as fast as switching to a handgun, but with more “killing power.” The M16A4 is pictured here in a promotional image during the mission “War Pig.”
MSMC — Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
The MSMC is used by the Cordis Die mercenary faction in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 . Described by the Call of Duty wiki as a “medium capacity, high damage and ranged submachine gun,” it does the most damage at close range out of any gun in its class. IMFDB notes that the MSMC and the PDW-57 are the only SMGs that can achieve a 3-hit kill at close range in multiplayer. Attachments like a laser sight, fast mag or extended clip help with this SMG’s effectiveness in terms of hip-firing and reloading. The MSMC is pictured here being reloaded, with a “Millimetre Scanner” and front grip, according to IMFDB.
ACR 6.8 — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
In campaign mode, the ACR 6.8 — a 6.8mm SPC variant of the Remington ACR, the IMFDB says — is a rare weapon only used by Derek “Frost” Westbrook in the mission “Scorched Earth”. In multiplayer, it is unlocked at level 50 and enjoys a relatively high damage per bullet. According to the Call of Duty wiki, the ACR deals 45 damage at any range prior to 20 meters, which means a two or three-shot kill is achievable if one bullet hits the head of an unarmored opponent. It is pictured here being used by a Delta Force soldier with a red dot sight attachment.
Model 1887 — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
This shotgun is used by the Russian Ultranationalists and Brazilian militia in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . IMFDB notes that it appears to be modeled after the shotgun used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: Judgement Day , owing to the fact that it has a shortened barrel, no stock, a removed trigger guard, an enlarged lever loop, and is flip-cocked when akimbo.
HBRa3 — Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
The fully-automatic HBRa3 is used by Sentinel Task Force operatives and the USMC in Advanced Warfare . As the IMFDB notes, it seems to be a reworking of the CZ 805 BREN in Ghosts , and visually resembles the Robinson Armament XCR. It features a VLTOR style stock and seems to be chambered in 7.62x39mm, if the magwell is any indication.
MP7 — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
The MP7 submachine can be used in Special Ops and Multiplayer mode in Modern Warfare 3 . According to the Call of Duty wiki, it has second highest mag capacity of all SMGs at 40 rounds. It enjoys a fairly high rate of fire, in addition to moderate power and low recoil thanks to its integrated foregrip. This weapon is best used in-game during
