In recent years Case Knives has been making strides to revamp the product image. Known for their long history of production slipjoint folders, it has seen a declining market in young buyers. For that reason, Case Knives has been successfully branching out into the outdoors and now EDC markets. The latest EDC offering from Case Knives, the Kinzua, is a beautiful and affordable, illustration of that move.
The Case Knives Kinzua
Something I found surprising, at the lower price point of the Kinzua, is the use of S35VN stainless steel. S35VN is a premium steel and typically found on higher end, and definitely more expensive, knives.
The 3.4-inch blade features a tanto tip, known for its excellent penetration properties. With a stonewash finish, the blade also has a saber taper grind. The blade comes to lock up, via a flipper, with the blade riding on a ball bearing pivot assembly. Furthermore, a strong frame lock holds the blade in lockup.
Encasing the blade is a lightweight anodized aluminum handle, with triple-faceted face, available in black, blue or red. Correspondingly, the Knizua carries in the pocket utilizing a steel, deep-carry pocket clip. Although it is set up for right-hand tip up carry, it is reversable for left-hand tip up carry. However, it cannot be configured for tip down carry for either hand.
With a name inspired by a scenic stretch of forest in the Allegheny region, the Kinzua is a part of the first collection of modern EDC knives from the maker.
