Chambers Custom is nestled near the banks of the Big Blue River in Nebraska. Chambers Custom LLC – Custom 1911s has been quietly making and tuning premier-level 1911s since 2010. Much attention is given to mega gun corps. Today we looked at one of the true craftsmen who still survive and thrive in the gun world.
Exceptional Pistols in the Heartland
The owner of Chambers Custom is Joe Chambers. He has been referred to as one of the finest young pistolsmiths in America by those who own and shoot his custom-made 1911 pistols. While he has had his own shop since 2010, he has worked at a bench for years.
Like many of the premier 1911 pistolsmiths today, Chambers had a mentor. In August 2007, Joe moved from Georgia to Nebraska to pursue his passion for pistolsmithing full-time. During the next three years, he had the opportunity to sit with a master craftsman, Bob Marvel. During his time in Bob’s shop, he spent hundreds of hours a month learning the intricacies of building exceptionally accurate and reliable 1911 pistols.
American Craftsmanship
When asked how he learned to pistol smith at this level so quickly, he immediately refers to the three years he worked under the direction of his friend and mentor, Bob Marvel. “Early on, Bob continually encouraged me to keep an open mind. To think of new solutions to problems, and always be willing to change and learn. Keeping an open mind and a positive attitude has helped me build what many clients have called ‘works of art that shoot.’ For example, Chambers Custom LLC – Custom 1911s are often praised highly. I am honored and humbled by this and other reviews and credit Bob for laying a solid foundation for my ongoing development as a craftsman.”
Guns built by Chambers Custom LLC – Custom 1911s have been used to win over 70 class championships at the NRA Camp Perry National Championships. They have also won many regional, state, and local matches. He has built guns for collectors, concealed carry, and action pistol competitors. He has designed and built guns for individuals serving in various branches of the US Armed Forces, both in the US and worldwide.
Pretty Hot and Tempting Working Man’s Gun
Today, Chambers is still pursuing perfection. In 2018, after encouragement from his friend Steve “YETI” Fisher, he began working with Chuck Pressburg This would be a new widebody pistol we now call the 2019 model and PHATWMG(TM). That which stands for Pretty Hot and Tempting Working Man’s Gun. At the same time, he developed what has widely been regarded as the best red dot mount for 1911 and 2011-style pistols, the RDSM(TM) mounting platform. They now have plates for four different dot footprints covering over a dozen red dots for pistols.
That project morphed into several Pro Series projects. These include Chuck Pressburg, Jared Reston, Steve Fisher, and Knight’s Armament Corp. The next one they have coming out is with Aaron Cowan. He also developed the “Workin’ Man’s Gun” (TM) line of pistols. The WMG line incorporates all the build details of his high-end collector pistols into a plainer, affordable single-stack 1911 pistol for the working man. Chambers Custom LLC – Custom 1911s continue to evolve with innovative designs and practical features.
Humble Beginnings
Chambers Custom is a humble shop that makes exceptional guns. Joe told me, “My shop is located on the banks of the Big Blue River in Nebraska. We use sand from the river to sandblast our parts on the guns to give them a very matte finish!”
Joe started Chambers Custom LLC because he wanted to continue improving on what Bob Marvel had taught him and produce the best 1911-style pistols available. He took his Bullseye Pistol building background and applied it fully to carry and combat-style guns. One of his mottos is, “If you’re not improving, you become irrelevant.” If you are looking for a true custom equal parts art and gun, you must visit Chambers Custom LLC – Custom 1911s.
