Earlier this year, CMMG unveiled its MkG45 Guard pistol caliber carbine in .45 ACP. Now, the Guard lineup is expanding with the introduction of the MkGs Guard chambered in 9mm. Like its predecessor, it’s fed from factory Glock mags and runs on the company’s radial delayed blowback operating system.

According to the presser, CMMG purpose-built its radial delayed blowback system to chamber .45 ACP, which required a new operating system that could compensate for its recoil impulse without adding more weight to the carrier and buffer. Now, using the same system to chamber 9mm, the MkGs Guard boasts a lighter buffer and bolt carrier group than other 9mm pistol caliber carbines out there that use a straight blowback system. The combined weight difference of the BCG and buffer in straight blowback vs radial delayed blowback can be as much as 6.5 ounces, the company claims. This reduction makes it a smoother shooting firearm and makes it easier to keep follow-up shots on target.

CMMG also placed a premium on equipping the MkGs Guard with fully functional AR-15 controls, including last round hold open. The gun boasts a new dual-pinned, fully machined bolt catch linkage, which allows for reliable operation right out of the box, with no need for adjustments. In addition, the actuation from this linkage is robust enough that it still uses a standard bolt catch spring.
