REPORT: Congresswoman Lauren Boebert Expected to Carry at Capitol

Recent reports on newly elected Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert suggest she may carry a firearm at the Capitol. Congressional members maintain the right to defensive carry on Capital grounds.

Boebert is known as a 2A supporter. The 33-year-old from Colorado recently inquired to Capitol Police about carrying a gun onsite, according to NBC News. Her office acknowledged the report.

Washington D.C. continues to be one of the toughest locales in the nation for citizens to carry. The Capitol still bars private citizens from carrying there. However, a decades-old regulation allows certain lawmakers to carry, with limitations, according to NBC News.

Now the pro-Trump Boebert, often seen carrying a Glock, heads to Washington while possibly exercising that basic right to carry. It’s also possible many other politicians, Republicans and Democrats alike, carry on Capitol Hill. Why? Because a 1967 regulation says no law—from the federal side of District of Columbia—”shall prohibit any Member of Congress from maintaining firearms within the confines of his office” or “from transporting within Capitol grounds firearms unloaded and securely wrapped,” reported NBC News.

“Members could have a loaded AK47 sitting on their desk and no one would ever do anything about it,” Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) complained, reported NBC News.

However, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) put in plainly, members of Congress face uncertain threats. “As soon as you leave the Capitol property, you are a target,” Massie told NBC News.

“Not only do I support members of Congress carrying a firearm, I believe every American has that right,” said Rep.-elect Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). “I will work every day to end ALL gun free zones.”

Boebert hails from Rifle, Colo., where she operates The Shooters Grill. She and her wait staff are known for open carrying while serving diners there. In any sense, gun owners likely have a 2A friend headed to Washington in Boebert.
