Corpus Christi, Texas Police Switch to Smith & Wesson M&P .40 Handguns

The Corpus Christi Police Department in Texas is switching from the Glock pistol to the Smith & Wesson M&P .40 caliber handgun. According to KiiiTV, police said the S&W is more versatile, has a smaller grip and extensions which can fit any hand size for men and women.

“Compared to the Glock, which was one size and we could not move it up or down,” CCPD Captain Billy Breedlove said. “You just had what came out of the box.”

As KiiiTV points out, it’s the first time in a decade that CCPD officers have been issued new guns. The new S&W M&P .40 handguns have already been used by the last two police academies.

“We purchased 500 total,” Breedlove said. “Airport police, city marshals and fire marshals are also transitioning with us.”

KiiiTV says that the guns were issued to patrol officers on Tuesday, and all officers must complete a four-hour training session with the new guns.
