I filmed the coyote hunt you are watching through my Trijicon 60mm IR Hunter Thermal Optic. I mounted it on a Beast Master Hunting Rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
The noise you hear in the background is a Foxpro Shockwave electronic call. There are two shooters that fire nearly simultaneously after the coyote clears the brush line.
Texas summers are brutally hot. While the food for predators is usually plentiful in the summer months, that doesn’t always stop the coyotes from picking apart a local sheep or goat population.
A Successful Coyote Hunt
On this particular night, I received a call from a local sheep farmer who said he had seen three coyotes over the last three days. He said he had lost a few sheep over the last couple of weeks. Beast Master Hunting is always willing to help out. So we loaded up the truck and took a drive down some dirt roads.
After only 30 minutes and two stands, we saw what looked to be a coyote several hundred yards away, across a ravine. A few different calls played on the Foxpro and he was headed right for us.
As the coyote cleared the draw and popped through the trees, we made the quick decision to take him on the move. This particular coyote seemed like he wasn’t going to stick around for long. The countdown started and we let him have it. You can hear two solid hits as he drops in his tracks.
No more lamb chops for this month’s Beast Master Hunting “Kill of the Month.”
