Craig ‘Sawman’ Sawyer Gets Real with Firearms Industry, Veterans

Craig Sawyer is a badass. There’s no two ways about it.

In case you didn’t know, Sawyer, aka “Sawman,” is a former Navy SEAL who served as a SEAL Team One operator in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After coming home, he became a SEAL sniper instructor before joining DEVGRU, more commonly known as SEAL Team 6. Upon leaving the Navy, “Sawman” spent five years as a Federal Air Marshal. He then transitioned into high-threat mobile security contracting, protecting U.S. politicians like Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Donald Rumsfeld.

Eventually, Hollywood came calling, and — in addition to the tactical contracting and training work that he still does — “Sawman” is also a technical advisor, consultant and military expert on shows like History Channel’s “Top Shot” and “Sniper: Deadliest Missions,” as well as H2’s “Top Guns” and the Military Channel’s “Deadliest Tech: Spec Ops.”

Oh, he has also managed to find the time to launch the International Coalition Against Poaching, a nonprofit devoted to saving endangered animal species from poachers.

Add that all together and you have arguably the most well-respected veteran on the planet.

So, you can understand our excitement when we got the chance to sit down and talk to Sawyer at SHOT Show 2017 in Las Vegas. In this fascinating chat, which you can see above, “Sawman” gives advice for veterans trying to transition into a career outside of the military; talks about how his name got bandied about as a potential nominee for VA Secretary in President Trump’s cabinet; dishes on meeting Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis; and much more. Check it out above.
