Considering most self-defense situations occur at night, a weapon light can be quite handy. In fact, even a compact handgun benefits from a light. That is why the Crimson Trace LTG-770 was introduced for the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield.

Now the Lightguard has been out for a while. But Crimson Trace hadn’t brought out a version for the Shield, despite customers asking for one. So, the company decide to fulfill the desire for a compact weapon light for this popular handgun.

The LTG-770 easily attaches to the trigger guard of the Shield to blast out 110 lumens of light. Additionally, its rugged polymer construction provides a long-lasting lighting for Shield owners.

It also features ambidextrous instant activation, along with both momentary and constant modes. And, this unit runs for over an hour, in constant mode, on two 1/3N batteries, which are included. However, the Crimson Trace LTG-770 is excluded from the company’s Free Batteries for Life program. This might be the only downside to this highly affordable light for the M&P Shield. Some might consider another to be that the unit only fits 9mm and .40 S&W models. Crimson Trace has not introduced a version for the M&P45 Shield.

The M&P Shield is a popular concealed-carry handgun. And the Crimson Trace Lightguard is one of the best weapon lights on the market. So, combining the two makes for an excellent tool to see the target when having to draw for self defense. It is just hard to believe that it took this long for the Crimson Trace LTG-770 to hit the market. And we got our hands on one at the 2018 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous.
