CRKT Provoke EDC Joins the Provoke Line of Kinematic Folders

One thing CRKT is never short on is innovation, which is exemplified in its Provoke line of karambits. The line utilizes unique engineering that resembles a transformer in its opening method, and it’s immense fun to fidget with. Following on the popularity of the karambits, CRKT releases the Provoke EDC, offering a more utilitarian blade profile.

The CRKT Provoke EDC

Utilizing the same engineering as the original Provoke line, the EDC utilizes the patented Kinematic opening mechanism. Opening the knife is almost as fun as it is genius. Placing your finger in the oversized ring, your thumb is in line with the upper crossbar. When you apply pressure to the crossbar, the mechanism lunges forward, launching the blade into the open position. The process is the same in the reverse grip.

Once open, the blade is held in lockup via a discreet slide locking mechanism, just forward the ring. However, it is worth noting that while you can open it single-handed, it takes two hands to close the Provoke. So, single-handed jobs will require you to set it down until you can close it.

Featuring an aluminum handle, the Provoke EDC reaches an overall length of 7.25 inches when open. The drop point blade features a full flat grind, which helps provide a keen edge. With a blade length of 2.56 inches, the EDC is legal in most jurisdictions. But it is still a good idea to check your local laws and ordinances.

The D2 blade material is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel that is air hardened. It offers a solid combination of wear resistance, toughness, and edge retention. And it does it at a more affordable price point than premium steel.

The 3.6-ounce Provoke EDC carries via a unique pocket clip that nestles within the ring. At the end of the ring the nestled clip ring rises out of its channel slightly. Simply press the end and the pocket clip projects from the side of the knife. Then just slip it into your pocket and release the ring and it will close down onto the lip of your pocket.
