GIVEAWAY: Win a Custom Precision APR Rifle Package Worth $7,688

For those looking to skip the video and story behind this beautiful rifle, scroll to the bottom to enter. But seriously, shame on you.

One of the questions I get most frequently is “What type of rifle should I buy to get into precision shooting?” And while it’s a valid question, it’s also one with a myriad of answers. In fact, it’s a question that should lead to more questions. With that in mind, we decided to narrow it down for one lucky person in this year’s Ballistic Precision gun giveaway.

Much was taken into consideration, and I could not think of a better company than Texas-based Alamo Precision Rifles (APR) to build this badass precision rig. APR has been cranking out competition-winning rifles in every long-range category, which gave me confidence that it was up to the task. Not only does APR build great rifles, but the company also has great customer service, which is a huge bonus for a good rifle builder.

I called APR’s Jason Davidson and told him about this Ballistic giveaway and expressed that we wanted it to be the most amazing rifle giveaway ever. He and the APR team were more than excited to help out. Jason took down all the necessary info and offered strong suggestions, which aided in arriving at the final configuration. Every component was carefully considered to create the ultimate prize.

The APR Rifle

APR started with its awesome G2 action, which has a wire-EDM-cut raceway for smoother cycling, and it shows. The action body is also sturdier thanks to the smaller ejection port. More features include a 0.062-inch firing pin for those who use smaller primers, a pinned 20-MOA top rail and a DLC finish. The action feels light and fast, free from any binding.

APR attached a 22-inch, 416R stainless steel, 1-in-8-inch-twist MullerWorks barrel chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Sendero profile. The barrel also has beautiful “micro skip” fluting and a sniper gray finish. This elegantly contrasts with the black action and Area 419 Hellfire self-timing muzzle brake—another popular PRS component—while perfectly matching the McMillan Adjustable A6 stock.

More Features

The stock features a Hawkins Precision CNC-machined bottom metal unit that was designed specifically for this build. Trigger-Tech was more than happy to include a Rem 700 Diamond Trigger that is user-adjustable from 4 to 32 ounces. It offers an incredibly crisp break due to the company’s Frictionless Release Technology.

When APR sent us the complete rifle, we were blown away. The company’s work is top notch. But then Area 419 wanted to add an Arcalock 14-inch Universal Dovetail Rail, which is just plain sick while being made to the Really Right Stuff (RRS) dovetail standard. This means it’s dimensionally correct and will provide a solid attachment to lever clamps. It’s made from 6061-T6 aluminum and features a barricade stop as well as other helpful features.

The Arcalock rail wouldn’t be complete without something to attach to it, and B&T Industries hooked us up. Not only did the company supply one of its solid, highly-adjustable PSR Atlas bipods, but it also engraved the Ballistic logo on it. The Atlas bipod is a staple in the precision world, and it needed just one more part so it could fit on the Arcalock rail. That’s where RRS came through with a BTC-Pro Clamp. Now the bipod is easy to attach anywhere along the rail.

The Scope

With all of these incredibly high-quality components, it’s hard to believe it could get any better, but it does. Nightforce Optics jumped on board this ultimate build and offered up its new 4-32x50mm NX8 scope. This scope features Nightforce’s new illuminated, first-focal-plane Mil-C reticle, and several different brightness settings are available.

Somehow Nightforce crammed a ton of quality into a smaller, lighter package while keeping the optic affordable. Nightforce products are known for their exceptional image quality, and the NX8 uses extra-low dispersion (ED) glass to maintain that high standard. And just like all of Nightforce’s optics, it’s built tough with lenses that are bedded so they’ll stay in place under hard use. The scope is anchored in Seekins Precision 30mm rings, because a build like this deserves nothing less.

After its completion, the entire package had to be tested to be sure everything was working properly. The first five 140-grain Hornady American Gunner rounds down the pipe created a 0.58-inch cluster. The first round got us on paper, and the second through fifth rounds produced a group measuring 0.38 inches at 100 yards. In other words, this gun is a real shooter!

Training & Ammo

But there’s more. On top of the rifle and scope, the winner of this contest will also receive a certificate for training at the Altus Shooting Solutions facility in Baker, Florida. Yes, the winner gets two days of instruction at one of the world’s premier precision training centers, all to make sure they’re using this rifle for all it’s worth.

The Altus Shooting Solutions facility is amazing. With 110 acres of private shooting on ranges out to 1,000 yards, and there are plenty challenging obstacles as well as moving targets. Altus also sports one of the best pro shops and online stores in the nation. So if you want to add other accessories to your new rig, you can do it there or via the Altus website when you get home.

The winner will need to cover their travel expenses to Altus. However, Federal Premium is supplying all of the ammo you’ll need to help offset that cost. Two hundred rounds of accurate, consistent, 140-grain Federal Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing ammo will be waiting for the lucky course attendee to “send it” under the guidance of the Altus instructors.

We’re excited to present this APR rifle package to our readers. If you’d like a chance to win the ultimate precision rifle, sign up below. The deadline is Oct. 14, 2019, and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter. And thanks to all our giveaway sponsors!
