TESTED: Sending Rounds Downrange Through the CZ P-10 F OR SR

You’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, right? Well, I’m certainly guilty of that and pre-judging whether I’m going to like a gun before I ever fire a shot. Sure, we like what we like and are comfortable with what we already know, but what are we missing out on? I, for one, can say I was shocked by how much I enjoyed shooting the CZ P-10 F OR SR. I am so glad I had the opportunity to review this pistol, or else I might never have tried shooting this gun for myself.

TESTED: Shooting the CZ P-10 F OR SR Pistol

Every feature of the P-10 F OR SR pistol blew me away, especially the affordability of the gun. The pistol comes optics-ready and suppressor-ready with a 1/2×28 threaded barrel. The barrel is outfitted with a threaded end cap to protect the threads when not in use. There are three backstraps that come with the gun to fit it to the pistol to the shooter, and many more features I’m going to dive into that make it worth checking this gun out on your next trip to your local gun shop.

The Trigger

Not many factory triggers excite me. They tend to be MIL-Spec, curved, have too much take-up, and have a not-so-clean feeling break. The CZ P-10 F was one factory trigger that kept me reloading magazines to shoot the gun repeatedly. I can’t say that about most guns out of the box. The P-10 F still has a built-in safety trigger mechanism, but it breaks at about 4.5 pounds, has a more natural trigger shoe, and is easy to reach even for smaller-sized hands. After the slack is taken up in the trigger, the trigger wall reaches its breaking point and surprises you as you finish the trigger pull. The reset is short, providing easy follow-up shots. Of all the features of this gun, the stock trigger on this striker-fired pistol really excited me.

The CZ P-10 F OR SR comes range ready for a shockingly affordable price.

Ambidextrous Controls

I love that more and more manufacturers are building guns with ambidextrous controls and creating reversible magazine releases to make one gun for right- or left-handed shooters to use. The magazine release can be easily reversed, while the gun comes outfitted with an ambidextrous slide lock lever. While not necessarily considered “controls,” the grip texture of the gun is symmetrical to include texture on the top of the frame to rest your support-hand thumb along the frame and your strong-hand trigger finger when not actively shooting. This gives both right- and left-handed shooters index points to get the same grip on the gun every time.

Felt Recoil + Ammunition

A lot of what people don’t understand about felt recoil is that your ammunition plays a big part in that. Guns are more pleasurable to shoot when you find out what ammunition they prefer. Of course, ammunition companies must load to SAAMI standards, which require manufacturers to load ammo to specific velocities that are safe but also aren’t undercharged. Many competition shooters and hunters reload ammunition because they can tune their ammo to their specific gun to shoot flatter, run more reliably, and be more accurate. But that’s a topic for another day. I discovered that the CZ P-10 F seemingly exhibited less felt recoil with less muzzle rise using 147-grain bullets vs. 115-grain bullets. The heavier projectiles move slower, creating less of the muzzle flip phenomena we all feel when shooting. Overall, this gun has manageable felt recoil, and with a suppressor mounted to the end of the barrel, it is even more fun to shoot.

Final Thoughts

I was genuinely surprised to find that I liked this pistol. It is a fun gun to shoot, and it’s just cool to shoot a pistol suppressed for a change. I love that it’s optics-ready as well, so I can swap over to a red dot or have a red dot along with backup iron sights that co-witness. If you’re in the market for a fun new blaster, be sure to check out the CZ P-10 F OR SR. You won’t be disappointed!

The CZ P-10 got its start as a purpose-built concealed carry pistol that received a lot of attention. Since that time, the company has continued to grow the line with upgrades to enhance the platform. Now, CZ releases the latest in the P-10 lineup with its OR SR series in full-size and compact models.

Like the entire P-10 line, the OR SR models feature a durable fiberglass-reinforced frame with ergonomics at the forefront. Likewise, prominent grip checkering provides comfort, stability, and safety, while interchangeable backstraps offer the perfect fit. Additionally, CZ ensured that all controls were ambidextrous, including a swappable magazine release for left-handed shooters.

The slide features deep serrations on the front and rear for ease of operation when under duress. Nestled within the slide is an extended barrel with a durable finish and ½”x28 threads for mounting a suppressor.

Correspondingly, atop the slide are high visibility (luminescent) iron sights with chamfered edges for smooth handling. Likewise, the sights are co-witness height so that they will work well with an attached suppressor or co-witness with attached optics.

The slide is set up to accept optics and comes with a filler plate out of the box. However, in order to affix an optic, you will need to purchase the proper mounting plate. I spoke with a rep at CZ-USA, and he told me that the pistols are designed to co-witness with the RMR footprint (with mounting plate). But plates are available for any optic you wish to use.

Ensuring shooter safety, the P-10 OR SR pistols include three safety features—trigger safety, trigger bar safety, and a firing pin block safety.

The P-10 OR SR is available in a full-size model, with a 21+1-round capacity, and a Compact model, with a 17+1-round capacity.
