CZ is back with a brand-new member of the Scorpion family. Just released is the hot new CZ Scorpion 3+ Micro Pistol. It may be a baby Scorpion, but it will sting and is reliably lethal. Talk is cheap, so CZ listened to the firearms community and decided to change up some things for the Scorpion 3+ Micro Pistol. It’s now much more user friendly, and AR shooters will find some of the controls familiar.
CZ Scorpion 3 + Review
A truly great gun for defensive purposes will have some kind of ambidextrous controls. It’s ideal if you need to shoot offhanded for whatever reason, injured, transitioning around corners, etc. The new CZ Scorpion 3+ offers an ambidextrous safety and bolt catch, as with the previous generation. But now it adds an AR-style magazine release on both sides. It keeps that part of the manual of arms similar to an AR-15 at least. Bolt release too if you run a BAD lever on your AR.
Another change to the CZ Scorpion 3+ Micro Pistol is the handguard. CZ switched from an aluminum handguard to one made from polymer materials. This is actually a good move for this small of a thumper, as it will help to reduce heat transfer. This is a really nice feature if you’re not wearing gloves. It’s ergonomically friendly and also has M-LOK slots for your chosen accessories.
They slimmed down the receiver to allow for a wider selection of end cap replacement accessories, including an aftermarket pistol brace. The magwell was also redesigned as well, to give a better grip on the handguard for large or gloved hands. Another example of CZ listening to the gun community is the sights. They’re aluminum, and are updated for a lower 1/3 co-witness while using your favorite red dot. It makes it that much easier if Mr. Murphy decides to play with your dot in the middle of a fight.
CZ Scorpion Magazine Features
CZ added recessed texture to the magazine body for a better grip during reloads. Scorpion 3+ magazines are backwards compatible, but they won’t accept previous gen mags due to the addition of the AR-style mag release cutout. Also new is the removable flash can. Now you can easily mount a suppressor, or your choice of compatible muzzle devices.
Last fall I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the 4th annual Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous. It was there that I was able to test fire the prototype of this very gun. The finished product sent for testing and evaluation sure doesn’t disappoint. This ultra-compact CZ Scorpion 3+ Micro Pistol will be a great little gun for your defensive needs. Stay tuned for a further, more in-depth evaluation in an upcoming issue of Ballistic Magazine.
