After learning of a potential safety issue with CZ 600 bolt-action rifles, CZ-USA has issued a safety recall notice. As a result, the company is suggesting that anyone who owns one of these rifles discontinue use immediately and return the rifle for repair. At issue is a potential catastrophic failure if the barrel is not installed correctly.
Important Safety Recall Notice Issued for CZ-USA 600 Bolt-Action Rifles
The CZ 600 rifle line allows users to replace the barrels themselves in order to change caliber. However, CZ recently learned that the rifle can still be fired if the barrel is improperly installed. This can result in a catastrophic failure resulting in serious personal injury or death.
CZ-USA recommends, “To prevent the possibility of death or serious personal injury, you should immediately stop using your CZ 600 rifle and not load or fire it until it has been returned to CZ-USA to be inspected and modified.”
In an effort to correct the issue, CZ-USA will permanently install the barrels in CZ 600 rifles. As a result, the barrels will no longer be interchangeable on the CZ 600 line. Unfortunately, this alters a selling point of the rifle line, and CZ-USA understands that the solution may not be acceptable to some customers. For this reason, the company will issue a full refund upon presentation of a valid receipt for the rifle’s purchase.
The company has not released a specific serial number range of the affected rifles. However, an online form allows you to determine if your rifle is affected by the recall. But, according to the FAQ in the recall notice, this affects all CZ 600 bolt-action rifles. So, it is very likely you fall within the recall if you have a CZ 600 bolt-action rifle.
Fortunately, according to the company, there have been no injuries related to this issue yet. CZ-USA identified the issue in-house and is getting out ahead of it before there are any injuries.
Returning Your CZ 600 Rifle
In order to return your rifle to CZ for repair or refund, you can start a claim at CZ600Recall.com. CZ-USA will provide a box, packing material, and a free shipping label at no charge to you. Once the company receives your rifle, it will make every effort to return it as soon as possible. The target return time, according to CZ-USA, is within thirty (30) days from the date of receipt.
Some states may require you to ship it back via FFL. However, federal law allows you to ship the rifle directly to CZ-USA for repair purposes. Likewise, the company can ship it directly back to you. But it is important to check your state and local laws to make sure that your state allows this.
