DefGrip Performance Gun Grip

Add-on gun grips have been a thing for eons. While companies strive to give us the best texture possible, sometimes we need more. In the days of old, hardcore shooters cut actual skaters’ tape to help improve grip. Today, there is a better option: the DefGrip Performance Gun Grip.

To some, the standard grip texture on their gun is fine. It allows them sufficient purchase of the weapon to do what they need. What I see in more active shooters, though, is a search for a better grip. As I mentioned, skater tape was included in the past. The challenge with skaters’ tape is that it is essentially sandpaper. While this is great on the range, if it is on your EDC gun, it is a problem. The sandpaper does what sandpaper is designed to do and rubs against your skin and clothes. I have lost a couple of good shirts to this product over the years.

Micro-Polymer Grip

The new solution is the use of shooters chalk. Before a match or training, you squirt some in hand, giving you a better grip. It works exceptionally well but is a non-starter for personal defense. Enter the team at DefGrip and their micro polymer gun grip. This is a world away from old-school skaters’ tape. The micro-polymer grip provides a superior connection by becoming an extension of the user’s skin, conforming to every ridge and groove. Tiny voids within the micro-polymer grip wick away moisture and sweat between the user and firearm, maintaining a dry contact surface.

The grip has an interlocking system to help keep it on.

If you train in warm or humid climates, you know how problematic sweat is. DefGrip performance gun grips solve that. I also found them to be very comfortable and allow me a bit of compression on my grip. This allowed me to lock in a little more and run the gun better. While it does not have the abrasive texture of sandpaper, it is still tacky. I was able to get a good purchase on the gun, and it did not move.

It is available for a variety of pistols.

Stays in Place

Another challenge we had with regular skaters’ tape was the edges coming up over time. You would try to press them back down, but there was no going back. The installation of DefGrip performance gun grips uses a unique lacing system that helps keep the tabs down. Installation is simple, and the material fits the gun perfectly. I installed it on my well-used Glock 17 Gen 5. It took all of four minutes, and I was up and running.
