Dressed for Success: Dene Adams Platinum Active Bra Concealed Carry Holster

“Do your bosoms need a buddy?” A potential ad slogan that popped into my head when I read about the Safariland Bra Holster introduced in 1965. Yes, the invention of the bra holster dates back to the 60s. However, companies like Dene Adams have taken the platform to the next level with products like the Platinum Active Bra Concealed Carry Holster.

History of the Bra Holster: Paving the Way for Dene Adams

Neale Perkins of Safariland designed a bra holster to fit small caliber guns such as the Browning .25 auto or any of the various derringers. The holster was placed inside either bra cup and held in place by a strip of Velcro—a new invention. This bosom companion sold for $4.95 and gave women the opportunity for daily, on-body concealed carry.

Perkins’ invention didn’t quite stand the test of time, but the idea behind it is still valid. A bra is the one garment most women wear every day. A holster specifically made for a bra enables a woman to have one holster that can be used with her entire wardrobe.

While the bra holster concept appears to be a no-brainer, it can be exceptionally dangerous. To put it bluntly, you have a loaded firearm underneath your breasts. If your holster does not meet certain safety criteria, you could be putting yourself at risk.

It is important to know what key elements to look for in a bra holster and why.

Trigger Guard Protection

Protecting the trigger from an unintentional snag or pull is crucial to prevent an ND (negligent discharge). Even if your gun has an external safety, the trigger must not be exposed and be protected from both sides.

Soft holsters need to be rigid enough to protect the trigger. Some fabric is too soft and allows movement of the trigger even when covered. So, it is important to check for this.

Protecting the trigger from an unintentional snag or pull is crucial to prevent an ND (negligent discharge), and the Dene Adams Platinum Active Bra Concealed Carry Holster handles this nicely.

Proper Muzzle Placement

When your firearm is holstered, the muzzle should be angled toward the ground and away from your face and other body parts as much as possible. Many bra holsters have the firearm positioned where the muzzle is directly pointing to one of the breasts.

Firearm Orientation

The firearm should be oriented in a position that allows a proper draw once outer garments have been cleared. You should be able to correctly index the firearm and draw in a smooth motion without struggling or muzzling anything other than your target.

Body Fit

The bra holster needs to fit your body properly.

Every woman is built differently. Breast size, body shape, and posture all play a part in finding the proper fit. What works for one woman will not work for another. The holster should maintain proper placement even with body movement. It should not shift or rotate in any direction whatsoever.

The Dene Adams Platinum Active Bra Concealed Carry Holster checks all the above boxes for safety and function. This is not a separate holster that clips onto your bra. It is a bra specifically designed to carry a firearm with a built-in holster.

I like this better than holsters that clip on because it’s more comfortable. Likewise, it doesn’t prohibit natural body movements in any way. This bra holster offers support and comfort while meeting the criteria for safety and function.

The holster compartment is located at the upper stomach and positioned at a 45-degree angle. This offers proper muzzle placement and a smooth draw. There is a bit of extra padding on both sides of the built-in holster to protect the trigger. In addition, there is a fast breakaway retention tab to secure the firearm.

I add additional trigger guard protection and gun retention with a semi-firm holster specific to the gun I am carrying. There is also an additional accessory pocket that is great for a spare magazine.

Comfortable Concealed Carry

This bra holster has molded cup liners and is sized to support the most common bust sizes from (S)32-B-(2XL) 42-DDD. It provides great support. However, if you are on the larger side of the spectrum, this bra holster could easily be worn over your current bra and still be comfortable.

The Platinum is also ambidextrous, allowing for a left-handed draw. It is a fantastic option that allows you to safely conceal your firearm without having to fidget or repeatedly adjust it throughout the day.

Training with Your Dene Adams Bra Holster

Once you have found a bra holster that works for you and meets all the safety criteria, it is time to train. It is crucial that you practice your draw regularly. Confidence and proficiency with garment clearance, draw, and firearm manipulation can only be achieved with proper repetitive training.

A wonderful way to evaluate your personal skill level is through video. Recording your dry fire sessions can assist you in finding mistakes or inconsistencies you may not be aware of.

Final Thoughts

The Dene Adams Platinum Bra Holster is my recommendation for a reputable bra holster. That said, what works for one doesn’t always work for another. There are many great companies with reliable products. Take the time needed to properly research products and truly find what works for you before purchasing.
